Next Wednesday, November 18th, during volunteer time (6pm-8pm) we will be hosting a sweet community art project, Pathway Patterns in Detroit. We are just one of many organizations participating in this project, so come out and see what it’s all about and be a part of something larger than just one place, one night. Almost like every other volunteer night, when you put it that way.

***In the artists own words:

“Pathway Patterns in Detroit is a community art project that will involve community groups in the City of Detroit in interactive art events and culminate in a collaborative exhibit/event at Swords into Plowshare Peace Center and Gallery in March 2010.

Pathway Patterns are built from a multitude of small wooden squares, painted with designs that invite touching and arranging. Participants in Pathway Patterns events share a playful, creative interactivity as they choose from a multitude of small design parts to explore relationships, discover pathways, and build complex patterns larger than themselves. There is a dynamic interface of the relationships between the design parts and the relationships between the participants as they work together. The product of this interface becomes a work of art that documents their creative exchange and agreement.”

Look forward to seeing you here, it looks to be a blast!

Discount for Cyclists @ Burton Theatre!

Did you know that our newest neighbors, The Burton Theatre, really want to reward you for making them a weekend destination via bicycle? From a recent email we received from them:

***New Ticket Price! On weekends we now have a special bicycle rate. Ride your bike to the theatre and get a dollar off admission. $6 tickets for all bikers!”

We think this is pretty darn great, and if any of you business-types out there offer any sort of cycling incentives, shoot ‘em our way via e-mail or come by the shop! We’d love to help get the word out about perks for cyclists (other than not paying for parking, being in better physical shape, and saving the world, of course).

A dollar is a dollar these days, and more power to our neighbors for the two-wheeled discount! Hear, hear!
