Looks like holiday season is upon us, which means that some of our regularly scheduled hours may be interrupted on somewhat predictable dates. THIS THURSDAY, 11/26, the bike shop will be closed, and there will no volunteer time. Wednesday the shop will have regular hours. Friday the shop will have regular hours (both 10am-6pm). We all know at least one holiday grump that constantly moans and groans about holiday music and decorations, right? One way to put a smile on their face might be to treat them to a sweet Hub t-shirt! Available for $15 in the shop in a variety of earth tones and lime green, Hub t-shirts feature that snazzy script logo you may have noticed on our door (or up in the top left corner of the home page). Check with staff in the shop for more information on size and color availability, they’re going fast! (Easter-egg bonus for those of you that read through the whole website posting: We’re scheming on some Hub-lookin’ spandex. A nifty item that will likely be here before the spandex is The Hub of Detroit 2010 Calendar! One of the things we want to feature in this calendar are pictures of the neat places where people lock their bicycles! If you’d like your favorite locking spot to be considered for inclusion in The Hub of Detroit 2010 Calendar, e-mail a picture to jason@thehubofdetroit.org by December 1st, 2009.
As if we really needed to give you another excuse to ride your bike to the shop and support our ongoing endeavors, Detroit Synergy’s 6th Annual Shop Detroit ride is coming up on Saturday, 12/12/09. Click the link to check for updates- it’d be a great time to pick up some holiday-time gifts for that hard-to-please cyclist you know (even if that person is you), as well as save some extra cash to support local Detroit businesses by saving on gas!
It’s about time for The Hub of Detroit’s annual Holiday Bike Drive and Giveaway! Over the holiday season, The Hub of Detroit collective members, staff, and volunteers help out repairing bicycles with 20” wheels and smaller to extend the joy of bicycling to families with younger children in need of a bicycle. Volunteer nights on Wednesday and Thursday from now through pickup time will be devoted to these tasks. Bicycle pickup for the Holiday Bike Drive and Giveaway is at the Back Alley Bikes entrance off of MLK, during the following times:
Saturday, December 12th, 12pm-4pm
Wednesday, December 16th, 4pm-7pm
Saturday, December 19th, 12pm-4pm
If you or your organization would like to receive vouchers redeemable for bicycles through the bike drive, feel free to give us a call (313.879.5073), or email (shop@thehubofdetroit.org) to set up a voucher appointment.
We try to schedule bicycle pickup in a flexible manner to accommodate a wide variety of schedules, but if you find that your organization has a time conflict with the above, please contact us so that we might work to set up a time convenient for you.
