Youth Ride Club – Saturdays (all summer long)
The Youth Ride Club is for youth aged 10-17 years old. The club works together to determine where they want to ride to. When they are out of ideas, Back Alley Bikes staff has plenty of routes to suggest to the club. Staff is also on hand to teach safe riding behavior as we all ride in the road as part of traffic together.
Adult volunteers ride along to chaperone and model safe cycling behavior. Helmets are required for everyone on the ride regardless of their age. Before joining the club, each member will meet with the ride club leader to learn the basics of safe starting, stopping and turn signals.
Another part about being in the club is that members are eligible to receive prizes for completing a certain number of rides.
Permission slips are required for youth to participate in our rides.
To join the club, call 313.879.5072, email jason (at) thehubofdetroit (dot) org, talk to staff during Youth Drop-In or come to the May 4th meeting for youth and families!
During the summer of 2011 we met on the third Saturday of the month to ride with our Youth from the Youth Earn-a-Bike program.
We had 15 rides in 2012. There will be rides every week May-August in 2013.
