During this five week training program, youth ages 10-17 go through the steps of overhauling the bottom brakcets, headsets, and hubs of donated bicycles. They also learn how to adjust and replace brake and shift components. Classes are taught by mechanics instructors but it’s up to each participant to do the work their bike requires. Youth participants can choose from hundreds of bikes and each completed bicycle comes with a lock and helmet. Day five of this course consists of a group ride, anyone age 10 and up is welcome to join with a permission form (minors under 18) but they must bring their own helmet. Bike safety is taught as part of the group ride but this is not a learn to ride class.
